Menu: First Houseguests Visit
On Thursday my Auntie D. and Nonna are coming to visit us in Philadelphia. Nonna is going back to Italy on Monday after 3 months here, so after our wedding and honeymoon this was the only weekend that worked! They are coming Thursday afternoon- Saturday afternoon, and PhillyBoy and I couldn’t be more delighted. Yes, delighted. There is no other word! I am way less homesick than I thought I would be… I only miss the people, and although R.I. will always be in my heart, I know I will be happy here.
We have been working hard every night to get our home in order. It is unbelievable to imagine that only 10 days ago we could barely walk through the guest room or hallway, and now our place is almost ready for guests! The guest room/home office is complete, from hanging curtains and organizing drawers to deep cleaning the floors and windows. (By the way, how does one clean the outside of a window when you are not on ground level? Any ideas?) The kitchen is in the same condition, and it is amazing how many kitchen items and things in general fit into this 1300 square foot space. We have no storage and only a few closets so we had to get very creative with putting items away! Also, we’re exploring options for a Cellar Cooling System. Any recommendations for that would be appreciated!
On Thursday when my Auntie and Nonna arrive PB and I are hosting a mini dinner party. PB’s mom and her husband round out the group, and we make a perfect 6. The great part about that is our dining table has exactly 6 chairs. Our guests have never been to our place (obviously) so we want a night in to let them explore! The menu is a bit courageous in that we have never made these entrees before, but we are confident that they will taste good (but still, wish us luck please)!
The Menu:
Appetizer:
Caprese Bruschetta
Entree:
Sea Bass with Fennel & Bacon (from Bride&Groom Cookbook- thanks Amy!)
Fusilli with Shrimp & Arugula (from giada’s family dinners- thanks Heather!)
Salad:
A light Greek Salad
Dessert:
Peaches in White Wine (my mom’s way)
Served with Vanilla ice cream & low sugar vanilla ice cream for Nonna
To Drink:
Sauvignon Blanc
Sparkling Water

Yay! Have fun cooking.
P.S. Next weekend is not good. 🙁
I have an Aunti D, too! 🙂 Best of wishes with your first houseguests! I know they will love everything, including the wonderful sounding menu you’ve put together. 🙂
How fun! Your menu sounds amazing!
Some windows can come inward for cleaning, I know ours do. On another note- do you guys rent? You could request that your building send a company to come clean them. I know a lot of buildings in the city sub-contract people for this; as more of a “maintenance” sort of thing.
Sounds like a beautiful dinner! I’m sure everything will be delicious!
Good luck, u better take pics!!
I call my grandma “Nonny”, haha love the cute family names 😀
That sounds absolutely delicious! Have fun with it.
Yummy dinner! Can’t wait to see pics!
I rent an apartment and the maintenance people will actually come and open the windows for me so I can clean them. If you have that sort of thing, you should call them up.
I just started a blog and would love for you to check it out melissanibbles.blogspot.com
