The Food Diaries: Thoughts
Please update your readers to www.rhodeygirltests.com/feed !
For five days last week I documented almost every bite that crossed my mouth. It was an interesting experiment into the world of food blogging and into my body.
Day 5:
Day 4:
Day 3:
Day 2:
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner- recipe for Baked Breaded Eggplant
Day 1:
And a LOVEly Weekend.
I would like to say that what you saw was exactly indicative of how I would normally eat, and I think it was. However, just the act of taking a photo of the foods made me think about them more than I usually would. Looking back on the week, I made some observations:
1. I thought my diet was 90% healthy, but in reality it is more like 70%. I *often* make really good choices, but not always.
2. I have a difficult time eating out, in that I overeat. I need to implement my snack before restaurant philosophy. I used to always eat a piece of fruit before going to a restaurant for dinner, and it helped me to stay away from the bread basket and community appetizers. I need to start doing that again.
3. My breakfasts are always sweet, but always healthy. I have a balanced breakfast every morning, and always have at least one serving of fruit. It is a great way to start my day!
4. While I tend to overeat at restaurants, I always make healthy choices. I order something good for me and then take a few bites of junk if I want it (like the one mozzarella stick and the hot chocolate at lunch this day).
5. I eat a lot. I definitely eat a higher calorie diet than I did before I got married. I am guessing this is normal, but it is something I would like to adjust.
I really liked this activity, and I loved blogging a few times a day, but I think I will stick to my normal recipes and such. I will definitely be sharing my daily diet with you every few months though, as I found it to be beneficial to some readers as well as to myself.

I loved this series! You are such a healthy eater and I always get great meal ideas from you. Thanks, friend! 🙂
Thanks for sharing your observations. I always have to have a sweet breakfast too. It’s the best way to start the day.
I hope you’ll give us a peek at any fun or different snacks or meals you have from time to time. I enjoyed seeing what you eat during the day.
I think eating more is natural right now because you’ve been running so much. Also, I don’t know about you, but it’s hard not to eat when Mark eats so much (hello,, 4 bagels in one day!).
Hi Sabrina!
I have to say I have loved reading about your food diaries and would love to see this as an added component to your blog. You’re such a beautiful, healthy woman and it’s great to see all the nutritious wonderful foods you eat all while still looking amazingly gorgeous!
Also, you mentioned you’re eating more, could I ask about how many calories that is a day for you now? Just curious since I am wanting to up my calories as well in response to my activity levels.
Thanks!
Shayla
@Shayla, Hi Shayla! Sorry I JUST saw that I never replied to this comment! Thank you so much- I will be sharing a day of food here and there for sure. I am probably eating between 1800-1900 calories a day right now on average. I am not blessed with a high metabolism so I know I can’t eat too much without gaining weight, but that number is working for me (I am on in the midst of losing the last 3 lbs of post-wedding weight gain and losing it very slowly). I hope my comment helps? Best,
Sabrina
Thanks for sharing this. I’m going to try this same exercise this week. I’ve been big on writing down what I eat, but I think it helps a lot more to take a photo so that you have a physical reminder.
It was really interesting to see your “food diary,” as we all eat so differently, not to mention that it’s fun to look a pictures of food! I completely agree about eating a piece of fruit before going out to eat; I find that an apple really fills me up and helps me leave the meal feeling full but not stuffed.
Loved all your eats. It definitely takes a lot of time and patience to document food, I find. Patience because I always seem to have to take multiple pictures of my food to get a good quality photo!
I loved all your eats, too, and would say you definitely eat healthy more than 70% of the time
My food intake has definitely went up since Jason and I got married a few months ago – it’s hard to tell though if it’s from seeing him eat or from the marathon training. I guess I’ll figure it out after we go back to normal eating next month after the marathon. Love the new look of the blog!
I noticed that I’m more aware of what I eat when I’m taking photos of it, too! It’s like a super-accountable food diary. 🙂
Oh, and I eat more now that I’m married, too! It’s so easy to do!
I love this!
I really enjoyed seeing your daily eats. It’s really great that you are able to achieve such balance. I too love a good sweet healthy breakfast. It’s just what I crave in the morning.

I definitely relate to your observations! Thanks for sharing!
I am LOVING the look of your blog! 🙂
I loved this exercise! Lately I’ve been eating really well and would be ok showing it off, but this time last year my diet was so processed and sugary I’d be embarrassed to show the internet!
