18 weeks: My Cravings
I am either hungry or full all day long- there is no in between. At 18 weeks I am eating every two hours but I fill up really fast. Although my body is willing to accept a variety of foods, I am stuck on a few favorites.
Caprese salads with balsamic vinegar and olive oil
I can practically already taste my next lunch.. soft mozzarella, grape tomatoes, just a touch of basil and lots of balsamic vinegar and olive oil in every bite. I keep saying I will start eating something different and then revert back to this.
Strawberry Shortcake
Or actually the strawberry and cream cake from Whole Foods. I have had a small slice almost every day for a week instead of a snack.
Watermelon
I really need this to come in season because the beginning of the season watermelon is not quite cutting it. I still buy it during every market trip though.
Avocado Cucumber Brown Rice Rolls
From Whole Foods. Heavenly. Satisfies my need for sushi.
Eggs and Toast
The simple combination makes a perfect solo dinner, especially with a bit of cheese.
All of the above foods have been on serious rotation over the last week. New to the list is CUCUMBER SLICES. I am going through cucumbers like crazy. I swear they taste like the most delicious food one can imagine, and once I start eating one I can’t stop. The other day I meant to put a cucumber in my caprese salad but ended up eating the whole thing while slicing it. What a yummy oops.
The kicking has been on and off. As I discussed before, I wasn’t sure if I am feeling kicks or something else. Now I know they are kicks but they are unpredictable. When will they become more predictable? I lay still and quiet every night hoping for kicks, but I can’t figure out when my baby is awake. Well, besides 3 am every night when I wake up to a few kicks. I love those minutes of quiet kicking. It feels like such a special moment between bambino and I.
At 18 weeks Babycenter has a lot to say on bambino’s development:
How your baby’s growing:
Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He’s busy flexing his arms and legs β movements that you’ll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they’re still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he’s born. If you’re having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you’re having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.
And apparently this baby is growing a lot because I am most definitely pregnant. Check it out- in comfy clothes:
And in my Easter outfit:
Boy or girl, boy or girl? Aside from strollers, car seats, and where we plan on putting our baby and baby stuff, this is all I can think about. Do we have a little bambino or bambina? I have all of the results of the gender prediction tests in my latest Babycenter post, and I hope you go and check them out and then come back and vote. It will be fun to see if the vote is split 50/50 or if it leans one way or another.

Random facts of the week:
Currently craving: all of the above foods
Cry fests: 2, but just little ones
Sleeping positions: about 6- I just can’t get comfy.
Is she pregnant or is she fat looks: several since the weather is warming up and I’m wearing tight clothes.
Desire to nest: High
Desire to nest in a nice big house in the suburbs: Very intense- I want a deck and big windows and lots of space! We just don’t want to give up the city yet.

You are looking more fabulous with each week my friend! I voted boy… but I think I was swayed by your dream!
For no good reason at all I am voting girl:-) I think I’ve heard about too many baby boys lately.
Looking fantastic π Glowing! Glad you’ve found some foods that really make your tummy happy! The kicking takes a whileee to get regular. My peanut seems to go through two periods in the day when she kicks like mad now (usually early afternoon and right when I get into bed). It is awesome to feel it! Hope you’re doing well today π
You are so gorgeous!! As always π
sabrinaaaaa!!! you are looking FABULOUS. absolutely glowing π i went to philly flavors last night and it did NOT disappoint, so I hope you start craving italian ice soon and we can go!
i bet it’s a boy…totally unfounded, but i got excited about the poll!
Sooooooooo pretty!
ahh you are the cutest pregnant lady ever! And that cake.. goregous!
so cute! I guessed girl – not sure why, though π
I’m 12 weeks pregnant and I definitely share your affinity for sushi, eggs and toast, and cucumbers. That reminds me- I need to buy some cucumbers! That sounds divine!
Girl…because I want another girl and because I know it is!
You are just the cutest! I’m not pregnant…but I’m craving ripe watermelon too…I’m on the countdown π
I guessed a girl just b/c the PC baby pattern has been boy, girl, boy…which would mean a girl for you. If it turns out to be a girl I might be on to something:)
I think it’s a bambina! π Getting so excited for you & Trig! xo π
You look fab! And I’m voting girl π
In my first tri, I ate a ton of brown rice California rolls… I was seriously addicted. SO good!
I voted girl – no idea why π so excited to hear the results!
I just have to say, you are the cutest pregnant lady ever! π
Hi! I dont know if you have already posted this…but where did you buy the baby blocks that tell you have far along you are. Love them!
@Lori, HI Lori! They are from bbblocks.com – totally worth the little splurge because we are using them now and then will use them to take photos of our baby one day!!!!
Thanks soo much. I will be buying a few sets for my girlfriends who are pregnant.
ps- I just made the egg white veggie frittas tonight for bfast this week…they are amazing, thanks!!
Yep, definitely looking pregnant (and cute!). You’re lucky that it’s time for tighter clothes. I think a lot of why people never knew with me is because sweaters and coats just push everyone to looking “fat”.
You are glowing!
The prettiest mom-to-be in history.
Late in my pregnancy I discovered cucumbers dipped in ranch dressing. Like, hidden valley ranch dressing. Most delicious snack EVER.
Love the photos! You are absolutely glowing! I voted boy! Just because I know way more girl babies just born or coming this way, I think there needs to be a boy to even it out π
I just LOVE these baby posts!!! You look gorgeous, Sabrina!!!!! π That cake is one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Steer clear of WF cupcakes though…they are pretty terrible.
I’m 36 weeks and still live on eggs and toast, cukes, and oranges. I cut back on the tomatoes when the heartburn became more regular π
The infrequent kicks were so love/hate! I don’t know if they truly got regular for me for more than a few weeks – probably 24-28 weeks? Sometimes the baby would be active in the AM and wake me up, sometimes at work, sometimes before bed — so unpredictable and nerve racking. Around 30 weeks I started getting rolls which are awesome! As i’m typing the baby’s butt is rolling from left to right under my chest it feels so crazy and looks amazing. It’s definitely running out of space which makes the whole pregnancy feel more tangible.
AND I remember that phase of pregnant or chubby! I look small so I still feel that way in some outfits. I don’t think I really looked pregnant until 28 weeks but part of that was winter outfits.
I don’t know why, but I’m totally convinced you are having a boy!! Either way, you two will have one gorgeous baby! π
I think it’s a girl π Are you planning to move out into the ‘burbs eventually? I loved growing up there!!
