25 weeks: Energizer bunny vs. Mega napper
I was so busy this week I didn’t write a single note in my pregnancy journal. I’ve been so good about writing little notes all along on feelings, symptoms, etc, but this week I was bad. I was just too busy out having fun!
While I’m smiles all day, I’m having a tough time this week. The weather has been gorgeous and our to do lists long, and I’m still not accustomed to my new body. It is not easy to learn your body’s new limitations when you’ve been living in your old one for 27 years. I want to take advantage of this last summer as a family of two, and it’s not easy balancing that with my increasing exhaustion and need for rest.
When bambino needs rest, he tells me. I feel nauseous, my legs hurt, my belly gets hard, and I overall don’t feel well. PB has been helping me figure out when it’s ok to push myself a bit and when it would be best for our growing baby for me to put my feet up, enjoy a lovely foot massage, and drink a big glass of water. This weekend we switched sides in our bed and it seems to be helping with my problems sleeping. Now I’m next to the window and while it’s a bit disorienting when I wake up in the middle of the night, the breeze from the window means I’m sleeping long periods of time. My record of the last few months was this weekend- 4 straight hours. He also bought me an amazing oscillating fan and I practically cried tears of joy and relief. Our wall AC is just too much to keep on all night and nothing is too hot. The fan has been a godsend and I am loving getting a few straight hours of sleep at a time.
PB has been so selfless, and I see already how he is going to be a great dad. He will give up the last portion of leftovers to me without a peep, rub my feet without my asking, and squeeze the tension out of my shoulders multiple times a day. He even makes sure I’m drinking enough water. I don’t know how single moms do it because I can’t imagine making it through this experience happily and comfortably without him by my side. I feel so lucky.
I know some people hate pregnancy, but I am not one of them. I love being pregnant and seeing all the different changes in my body. And I really love those special moments where bambino kicks me to say HI MOM! Seeing the scale creep and hop up is hard, and some of my weight loss buddies from back in the day are urging me just to stay off it. I don’t know if I can do it! I immediately freak out at the big jumps but later in the day shrug them off. I know I am doing the best I can do, and I know my body is doing what it needs to do. I just want bambino to keep growing and growing.
25 weeks and nice and round:
Comparison:
25 weeks:
I can’t believe I thought I was “showing” at 12 weeks. I was so thin!
Here’s what Babycenter says about 25 weeks:
Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn’t much more than an average rutabaga, but she’s beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she’ll start to look more and more like a newborn. She’s also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you’d now be able to discern its color and texture.
I hope bambino is born with lots of hair like I was as a newborn. If heartburn really is any indication, then this baby will be a monkey- just like I was!
Our nursery furniture, which may include toys such as the ones on Lumie World, is now all here and assembled. Saint PB put it together within 24 hours of receiving it, and it looks so good. I can’t believe we have fit a guest bed (full size), my big work desk, a crib, a changing table, and a dresser all in this one small room. We had to get a bit creative and ask for some help in the form of my mother in law’s garage for some storage, but we are going to make it work. Thank goodness because I LOVE living in a city and I’m not quite ready for the suburbs. Having a baby does give us the itch a bit, but we want to hold off until the city is no longer fun.
Random facts of the week:
Overall weight gain: Between 21 and 22 lbs depending on the day (this is at 25.5 weeks pregnant)
Weight gain in the last week: Yesterday it read as 3 lbs, today it reads as 1.6. Let’s just say 2?
Current obsession: CLOTH DIAPERING. I want to know everything and anything about it. The pediatrician who spoke at our childbirth class (who is incidentally also bambino’s ped) said that cloth diapers are better for our baby’s vor (aka bottom) and now I’m obsessed. We were considering it but I was more concerned about using washcloths instead of disposable wipes. Now I really want to cloth diaper too. In today’s Babycenter post I asked everyone to teach me to cloth diaper. If you know anything about it, please head over there and leave me a comment. I am going to make myself a big Word doc with all the replies.
2nd current obsession: Questions about those glass bottles I love. They have a stage 1 nipple. Will my breastfed baby do well with those or will the flow be too fast? Anyone have experience giving a breastfed baby a stage 1 LifeFactory bottle?
Baby stuff this week: Not much except… our babymoon! We are just going for the weekend, but I am selfishly stoked to get away for a few days with my hubby and my hubby alone. He is all mine! And I plan on dominating the pool at our hotel. Can’t wait to swim! We also have our last childbirth class which is bittersweet. It has been fun learning more about baby stuff and hospital stuff and labor/delivery stuff over the last 6 weeks. Tonight’s class is on breastfeeding and then it is all over. Major bummer!
Oh, and I have nothing funny to share this week except that I now have to propel myself off the couch in order to actually get up. Ridiculous. And awesome.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! omg i LOVE BABIES!!! you look so so cute and happy girlfriend =) i am so excited for you. a couple things: my sister is cloth diapering her daughter, and they bought the ones that are supposed to fit a newborn all the way until potty training. but my niece was born 7 lbs, and she was still too little to fit. shes about 11 weeks now, and they are justttt starting to make the transition to all cloth diaps. much cheaper, greener, and better for baby IMO. i can ask her for more deets after they have been doing it for a while. also – lets get ice cream! i think bambino needs it… 🙂
Sabrina, you are beautiful. I am really enjoying following your pregnancy journey- partly because I am about 5 weeks behind you and I am fascinated with all things pregnancy.
I’m curious about the cloth diapering thing, too. I mentioned it to my husband, and he was opposed, but I think it could be a really good thing (and save a lot of money). I’ve been enjoying reading your Baby Center posts, so I’ll be sure to check over there to see what commenters have to say:-).
You look gorgeous! Love the striped top! Where are you guys going?
pup- we are going to Florida! Literally just for the weekend, but from Philly it’s only a 3 hour flight. I had a Southwest credit so we used that for (most) of the flight cost, and then we used Starwood points for a hotel. I’m stoked since we were able to make something work since we are trying to save and didn’t want to spend a lot of money. Flight + hotel together is costing about $150 which is incredible. Then all we have to pay for is internet (so trig can work), food, and cab rides! Woohoo!
Oh, and at first we looked at driving to a beach in Delaware but the hotel was $400 a night! And it had horrible reviews about bed bugs!!!! gross!
You look fab! I know it’s hard to watch the scale go up, even though you know it’s supposed to. I have the same troubles some days, but like you, end up shrugging it off.
I love your baby pic and all your hair! Hope my little one has some, too, but without much heartburn lately, I’m not so sure 🙂
You look amazing! I am still weighing myself also, but I am more worried when my weight goes down then up! I have known before I got pregnant that I was going to cloth diaper. My husband and I are both teachers and anything we can do to save money we will since neither of us make very much. Young House Love has some great posts on cloth diapering that I have read up on, but I’m interested to hear what other people think! And about washcloths instead of disposable wipes…
I have that same tank! Gotta love Target! Glad you’re sleeping better! It is definitely tough to remind yourself sometimes that you’re pregnant and cannot do it all….despite wanting to! I thought about cloth diapering for a while….then we vetoed. I still haven’t ruled it out completely. They’ve made such advances in cloth diapering systems.
I’m so far from getting pregnant or having a baby but I love reading these posts about your experience!
You look great! Love the baby pic too!
We used cloth diapers (and wipes, since you wash them all together anyhow) with our first and plan to use them again this time. With our first we used prefolds for the first 5-6 months and then switched to fuzzi bunz. There are a ton of great (and adorable!) options. If you have any questions I’d be happy to answer them. 🙂
I think stage 1 nipples are the slowest flow. We only ever used the stage 1 nipples with my son when he had to have bottles. He was pretty easy though when it came to feeding, he went from breast to bottles of pumped milk and back again with no complaints. I think it really depends on the baby, some are way pickier about bottles and nipples than others.
You look great and sound so excited to be a mom 🙂
Love you in that striped top! You look fabulous. Enjoy these next several weeks.
Gosh it sounds like PB is being such a good daddy throughout your pregnancy! I hope I love being pregnant some day too 🙂
Wow, your husband sounds like he’s being amazing! Have a blast on your babymoon!
Your baby bump is too cute!! I am 26 weeks today and I still have to remind myself it’s ok to not do too much if I don’t feel like it!
@Marissa, I keep feeling like it’s “too soon” to have to slow down, etc, but it really isn’t! If I’m tired I need rest! Congratulations to you!
We are using cloth diapers and I’m loving it. we started in disposables just because we got so many at showers and things, plus we didn’t want to add to the feelings of being overwhelmed in the beginning. After about two weeks of diaper rash, we switched and haven’t looked back.
@Sarah R, When did the diaper rash start? Right away, meaning you started with cloth at 2 weeks of age? If you could go back would you start with cloth right away or was the beginning disposable time very useful?
@RhodeyGirlTests, We started cloth at 6 weeks. I would have started sooner, but my husband was still a bit apprehensive, and our little guy was still a little small for the one sized diapers that we decided to use (bumgenius). I think, being first time parents, it was nice to have a little transition time, but would probably start with cloth right away with the next one. The first few weeks are tough enough without having to think about the extra laundry, etc that comes with cloth in my opinion. It’s no big deal now though.
I recently started reading your blog and I want to tell you that you look fantastic at 25 weeks! Also, don’t stress about the scale. A lot of weight gain is water which you will lose so soon afterwards. I wish someone had told me that as I gained more than the recommended 25-35lbs, even though I ate well and exercised almost daily.
And even if it’s not water weight then just remember that every pound you’re gaining is just making your bambino stronger. I’m glad you’re enjoying this time-it’s an amazing period in one’s life!
You look fabulous!!
And I hope to use cloth diapers someday too 🙂
You are such a cute pregnant lady!
And don’t worry at all about the scale. with breastfeeding and walking, I was back in pre pregnancy clothes in 4 weeks, pre pregnancy weight in 3 months and now 8 months later I’m 8 pounds lighter. Youre baby and your body want you to gain weight, enjoy it!
Hi from your fellow BabyCenter Pregnant Mama!
Sabrina those photos of you as a baby are SO CUTE! Adorable! I’m so excited to see your bambino to compare when he arrives!
You look beautiful, healthy, and happy! I have baby fever, but am not quite ready to start adding to my family so I am loving reading all about your pregnancy experiences. I’m living vicariously through you and learning so much. I feel like I’m going to be so prepared because of you (and some others) who so openly blog about what it’s like to be pregnant. 🙂
This site is really interesting i’m yearning for is there the other examples? however anyway many thanks noticeably because I found that i used to be probing for.
