28 weeks: Happy 3rd trimester!
Welcome to the 3rd trimester, land of anticipation and waddling!
Waddle, waddle.
Yup, I’m officially waddling! It makes me laugh so hard but I can’t help it. It only happens sometimes when the baby is in a certain position. I don’t mind waddling if it means the baby is head down! Also, when I sit on the ground I prefer a little help getting up. And when I bend over to pick something up I try to combine it with anything else I have to do low to the ground. Funny.
28 week pic:
Here’s what Babycenter says about 28 weeks:
How your baby’s growing:
By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. He’s also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
My latest obsession is trying to make sure bambino isn’t breech. At my next appointment I plan on asking my doctor for ways to prevent that from happening- if there are any. I’m obsessed with the topic and it worries me every day.
The weight gain has definitely slowed down. I gained a ton in one month, but now I’m peetering around 1 lb or less a week. This past week I gained 0.8 lbs… despite eating two ice cream sundaes, clam cakes, and other fun RI foods I missed.
Last complaint… stretch marks. I am so paranoid about getting them since I already have some from growing up. I don’t want anymore!! (said in a bratty voice) I got two little ones at the ends of my appendectomy scar, but I hear that getting stretch marks next to scars is normal. I don’t care about that since I already deal with a scar there- I just hope I don’t get any anywhere else. I’ve been religiously lubing my whole body up even though they say it won’t make a difference. Just need to cover all my bases.
We spent the long weekend in RI and it was heavenly. We went to the beach, hung out with family, lounged around my auntie’s pool and ate all the Rhode Island foods I have been craving. I’m not sure we will be back until after the baby is born, so we tried to squeeze in as much family time as possible. We also reorganized the room we sleep in at my dad’s house and PB set up the crib! I stayed in the shade all weekend and drank tons of water like my doctor told me to do. Things are moving fast and we are in the home stretch. I have a feeling the next couple of months are going to crawl by.
My family also showered me with a mini shower! It was just my cousins and aunties and nonna- a small group of 12 of us- and my sister in law took us to 41 Degrees North in Newport.
We had a casual lunch, played two cheesy shower games, and I opened presents. I felt so loved having my ladies around me, and I wish we did girls’ days more often. One of the trivia tie-breaker questions was how much weight did they think I gained so far, and my nonna guessed 40 lbs. FORTY POUNDS! I guess she thinks I am a lot bigger than I am. Everyone got a chuckle out of that one. Ohhhh and my cousin Raz got me some cookies from the Cookie Jar to bring home. They are in my freezer awaiting transformation into these. Yum, yum yum. After lunch the guys met us at auntie’s pool for dessert and relaxation. It was a perfect way to end a perfect weekend.
The pre-term contractions have slowed down a lot, but the minute I do too much they act up again. I need to just keep reminding myself that for the next 2-3 months I need to take it as easy as possible. One funny belly thing to note is that bambino kicked me so hard in the ribs one day I CRIED! It still feels tender in that spot 3 days later. I called him an @sshole and then laughed. We’ve already bonded.
Random facts of the week:
Weight gained in the last week: <1 lb
Weight gained overall: about 25 lbs
Ice cream servings consumed: 5
Ice cream cravings: serious
Current cravings: Life cereal (still), ice cream (still), this amazing pasta dish I will share later this week, and peaches
Amount of exercise: 0 aside from incidental stuff. I’m not going to do any formal exercise anymore because the second I walk more than 2 minutes I get contractions.
Exercises I’m looking forward to: zumba, lifting, pushups, running, boot camp, kickboxing, riding my bike to run errands.ย I miss being hard core!

Still looking amazing! I love this – it’s going to be so fun to go back and look at this when you’re no longer pregnant. Love “Ice Cream Cravings: Serious” – haha. Mine are too but I’m not pregnant so maybe it’s just this Summer heat! ๐
You look so great! I’m so glad to hear the contractions have slowed a lot. Weight gain during pregnancy is so weird. I don’t understand how I can gain nearly 2 lbs in one week and barely any the following week!
You are the cutest preggo girl ever! I love that first shot of you…so beautiful ๐
That picture of you is adorable! Glad the shower was fun ๐ And congrats on being in the third trimester! So exciting ๐ Its amazing how strong those tiny feet and hands can be! I’ve definitely said ouch more than once! I linked to one of your baby center posts in my last preggers update. Love reading your stuff! Have a good one
I have to say, I love your blog! I am almost at 28 weeks and planning for a “natural” childbirth at a hospital my husband and I have decided to go without a doula this round and see how it goes. You look great by the way. Also if you haven’t seen the documentary “The Business of Being Born” I highly reccomend it, my husband said he learned a lot about child birth from watching it and is definately board my decision not having an epidural!
You are definitely glowing! As someone who had to deal with turning a breech baby, I know there are simple exercises and stretches you can do to “motivate” the baby to get in the head down position. Things like keeping your posture really straight, squats, hip circles/pelvic tilts, and downward facing dog all help. Of course ask your doc what he/she thinks. My doc told me that my situation was rare. Don’t worry, most babies get head down on their own. ๐
Hahahahhaha I love that you called bambino an asshole for kicking you so hard!
Girl, you look fabulous in that picture! I’m obsessed with my baby being head down, too. Any tips to helpbthem go he’d down or stay that way?
Welcome to the third tri! Let the countdown begin ๐
Home stretch! Yay! You look wonderfully happy. Enjoy those cravings and glad to hear you’re taking it easy:)
P.S. a note on stretch marks….I, like you, also got them growing up and didn’t end up getting any at all through both of my pregnancies:)
Loving the updates! Can’t wait for the little many to arrive!
You certainly do NOT look like you’ve gained 40 pounds!
Anyway…
I think I would be rocking the ice cream craving, too, if it weren’t for the fact that I think my own little one is not a fan of lactose. If I get really desperate, I know there are always dairy-free options:-).
You are looking gorgeous as ever! Glad you had such a great weekend! Hope you have a great week:-)
You look beautiful!! Glad things are going well – I wouldn’t worry too much about breech at this point – the baby has a way of fixing themselves before they are born – I actually have a twin sister, and I came out first – my sister was breech and they were able to turn her around and out she came . . . about 30 minutes after me!
I loved the story about the baby kicking you, not that it hurt you but what you said made me laugh out loud! Glad you are doing well and keep taking good care of yourself ๐
Just found your blog via twitter…you are absolutely gorgeous!!! Congratulations on an exciting journey! A co-worker brought her baby girl by for a quick visit at work…born 5 wks premature and is just now 6 lbs…so tiny…the greatest gift in the smallest package! ๐
Have a wonderful evening!

Glad everything is still going well for you! I love the ice cream cravings…aren’t pickles and ice cream the two most popular ones?
Don’t worry about breach. . .I was until 35 weeks (although I still hold my breath at each doctors appointment.)
Here is what I did, twice a day, and now that baby has moved into proper position, I do it once a day.
Get on the floor on your hands and knees, then place your entire forearms on the floor, resting your head on you arms. Then, just rock your hips from left to right – I did a count of 100 (50 right- 50 left).
Good luck!
Would love to know how any tips your OB has on preventing the breach baby position. I’m a few weeks behind you so I having so much fun following you along. BTW, I’m not sure I would have made it through your shower without crying through the “guess the weight game”. You are a far better sport – but probably because you look/feel great.
@Lynn, I’ll let you know what the doc says about breech babies!
I have finally accepted that my body is in control here and I am going to gain what I need to gain. I am above where I wanted to be at this point, but once I realized my body needs to do what it needs to do I am fine with it all.
Thanks. I think I finally realized that this last week. At least we’ll have fun working hard this fall to get back in shape :). I just saw your post on babble and all the comments for breech babies, so I’m all set. Thanks!
I absolutely love reading your blog. I am 10 weeks pregnant and I have been looking everywhere for these wooden countdown blocks I see in all your pictures. I would really appreciate if you could tell me where you got them from. Thank you in advance.
@Tanja Nouri, Hi! Thank you! The blocks are from bbblocks.com – enjoy!
