Raffi’s munchkin meals
After so many of you showed interest in Raffi’s meals I’ve been sharing many of them via Instagram and Twitter. He’s a good little eater, and I’m trying to give him as many different foods as possible at this age – different textures, tastes, and combinations. It seems as though lots of children eat really well at this age and Raffi is one of them.
He usually doesn’t eat that much at breakfast since he nurses about 30 minutes before mealtime. However eats a lot more at lunch since he nurses at 9 and then eats at 12. At dinner it depends on the day and some days he will eat more than twice the amount of others. Until 8 months he barely ate anything, and one day it just clicked and he became a hoover.
I usually try to do a fruit, protein, vegetable and grain if I can, but I don’t overthink it.
Here is an example of a day of food
Breakfast: toast with cream cheese and cut up cherries
He was already tired for his first nap and only ate 1 toast strip and 2 bites of cherries. He usually has prune juice mixed with water for breakfast and the reminder of it at lunch. I give him 2 oz of prune juice a day.
Lunch: egg salad, spinach leaves, blueberries and Stonyfield YoBaby yogurt
This is not actually what he had for lunch today but it’s a typical example. After such a lite breakfast it’s typical for him to eat a lot at lunch.
Dinner:
Pretzel sticks with hummus, Armenian string cheese, peas, strawberries
He ate all the peas, strawberries, cheese and hummus and had some chicken on top of this. He would eat the hummus of the pretzel stick and then suck on it until I took it away. He also had a lot of water with this meal. I think the hummus made him thirsty.
Now that Raffi is really into finger foods mealtime is so fun. I love sharing my meals with you, and I love sharing Raffi’s just as much. I also enjoy seeing what other babes eat. Brittany is hosting a munchkin meals linkup today so see her post for lots of food ideas for your children!
This is fantastic! This is pretty much exactly how I have fed Owen since he started finger foods (fruit, veg, protein at each “meal”, as many whole/natural/uncomplicated foods as possible) and now he is a FABULOUS and voracious eater, at almost 2 years old. I can only hope it continues 🙂
Enjoy! Eating together is definitely one of our favorite things also.
I’ve seen you post Armenian string cheese before and I’m so curious- is it different than regular string cheese? Where do you buy it?
So stinking cute! I love seeing what you’re feeding Raffi!
So cute! Great posts. These posts are making me feel like CJ eats WAY too much, but what can I say…he’s hungry?!
Why prune juice everyday? Seems a lot of extra sugar for no reason, especially at his age. Are there benefits or is there a reason he needs it (constipation, etc?)
@Constance, Raffi did not use the bathroom for more than 2 weeks and our options were becoming limited. I would rather not have him have any juice, but it’s the only solution for us right now.
That certainly makes sense.
Thanks for sharing Raffi’s meals. Now I have some new ideas for Sam!
Thank you for sharing these meals!! I’d love to see more as I’m always looking for new ideas for my 15 month old twin boys. I had never thought of cream cheese on toast… I always do peanut butter so now I can switch it up 🙂 Thanks again and please continue sharing more baby menu ideas!
I love seeing what everyone’s been feeding their little munchkin’s!! This was a fun post to do! Thanks for sharing what Raffi’s been having. Ella’s favorite food in the world is hummus. SHe eats it with cucumbers, her fingers, then she sticks her face in the bowl and dumps it on her head haha. I’m not even kidding.
She also loves toast with cinnamon and coconut oil! If you haven’t given that to Raffi yet I am sure he’d love it!
PS- I will have to tell Dana next time you guys hang out maybe we will meet up at some point. I’m supposed to see her this week 🙂
As much as we eat cream cheese here (son can’t have most other cheeses), I can’t believe I have not thought about putting it on toast for breakfast….. duh! Bagels but never toast… lol. Thanks for sharing. Lots of good stuff for your little one.
